Tone (2019)

Tone is a performance piece that challenges the way communication and relationships shift within an online landscape. When communicating outside of a physical space, aggression is a behaviour easily excused under the guise of miscommunication and misunderstanding. The language and tone that can be expressed online are considered inappropriate when spoken in person, but the anonymity and delay of technological spaces emboldens aggressive and abusive behaviour. Tone places these ideas into the context of reality through physical touch and textual elements, and emphasizes the idea that the physical distance of online communication is not an allowance for aggression; where there is interaction, there is connection.
